The Gulf Coast tick feeds primarily on wildlife, but will readily feed on humans. They are ticks of prairie grass meadows and shady, wooded edges.
Pathogens transmitted: These ticks are able to transmit Rickettsia parkeri rickettsiosis, a form of spotted fever, to humans.
